Jeff Woolnough

Jeff is an award-winning director who works for the major networks and cable outlets in the U.S. and Canada. His work spans many genres from epic historical dramas Vikings and Copper to police dramedies Backstrom, Perception and N.C.I.S. And from science-fiction adventure series The Expanse and Battlestar Galactica to biographical movies and miniseries Keep Your Head Up, Kid and Jack.

Jeff spent his early years playing guitar in a rock band and working as a broadcast journalist in radio and TV. Filmmaking was his first love, however, and he was fortunate to shadow director Norman Jewison on the Academy Award Winning film Moonstruck. This experience helped propel him into the director’s chair and his career has taken him around the world from Los Angeles, Vancouver and Toronto to Dublin, Luxembourg and Cape Town.

Jeff received the 2013 Directors Guild of Canada Outstanding Achievement Award for his movie, “Jack”, the life story of Jack Layton, the leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada who passed away tragically only months after leading his party to an historic victory. The movie also won Best Actor and Best Actress at the Canadian Screen Awards.

His 4 hr miniseries “Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story” received the 2010 Directors Guild of Canada Outstanding Achievement Award. It also had two wins at the 2011 Gemini Awards: Best Actor & Cinematography.
